Job Description

LCS Tax Services is a growing public accounting firm based in the Bastrop and Smithville areas. We are seeking a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our team as Tax Manager.

This position is responsible for performing complex tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning with minimal supervision. The Tax Manager provides directions and technical guidance to less experienced staff. This person contacts clients to resolve all tax related matters and implements tax preparation for the company and clients.

This Tax Manager will report directly to the owner.

The ideal candidate will be an independent, creative, dynamic, and collaborative problem solver.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares complex income, franchise, excise, USF fees and taxes, general corporate taxes (federal and state), sales/use taxes, payroll taxes, telecom, and property taxes with ability for general numbers crunching.
  • Reviews tax work of subordinates.
  • Trains, mentors and provides work direction to staff.
  • Reviews tax information supplied by client, may meet with or call client with questions.
  • Recognizes, anticipates, and resolves tax issues, and makes recommendations.
  • Promotes firm services to existing and prospective clients.
  • Meets productivity and efficiency standards (billable hours).
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries and account reconciliations, including overseeing bookkeeping efforts and identifying/resolving variances.
  • Participate in the accounting close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting of all monthly financial information for clients.
  • Support in financial statement audits and tax return preparation by preparing documentation and working with external audit & tax teams.
  • Support in ad hoc accounting and financial data analysis, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; Certified Public Accountant or equivalent experience with a Big Four accounting firm; or Specialist in GAAP.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in general accounting.
  • Tax experience with mid-level compliance work (complex returns, basic consolidated tax returns, complex 1040’s, partnerships).
  • Working knowledge of tax code and tax regulations.
  • Progressive accounting experience in public accounting or similar work environment.
  • Tax planning, tax due diligence, and audit support experience.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to work with all personnel within the organization and facilitate communication effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to be a team player, flexible, and able to work in fast-paced and changing environments.
  • Strong organization, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Has knowledge or experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office suite, OfficeTools (or other project or work management software), Zoom, and ProSeries or other high-end tax preparation software.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or economics
  • CPA License
  • Strong accounting knowledge and an understanding of US GAAP
  • Experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping or tax
  • Experience completing individual returns
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, supportive environment
  • Comfortable working with virtual tools – video, phone and chat
  • Must complete continuing education requirement and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements
  • Positive attitude and ability to be flexible to changing priorities, especially in the period of month/quarter/year-end close
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization and with clients
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to be a self-starter
  • Knowledge of OfficeTools is preferred

Pay Range

This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $35 per hour with bonuses based on performance.
